OVIN and e-mobil BW GmbH renew partnership for a three-year term to bolster cross-border collaboration in advancing the automotive and mobility sector.
(Hanover, Germany—April 1, 2025) Ontario and the State of Baden-Württemberg, through the Ontario Vehicle Innovation Network (OVIN) and e-mobil BW, are embarking on a new chapter in their partnership to enhance the integration of Ontario and Germany’s automotive and mobility sectors. Signed at Hannover Messe 2025, the renewed strategic partnership between OVIN and e-mobil BW outlines a shared commitment to driving the future of the sector and fostering a stronger economic relationship.
“Though the Ontario Vehicle Innovation Network, our government is proud to support partnerships that strengthen Ontario’s leadership in the automotive and mobility sectors,” said Vic Fedeli, Minister of Economic Development, Job Creation and Trade. “As we continue to move towards a future rooted in electric, connected, and autonomous vehicle technologies, this collaboration with e-mobil BW – one of Germany’s most advanced mobility ecosystems – will play a pivotal role in unlocking new opportunities for Ontario businesses and expanding Ontario-made innovation to key markets.”
Building on a successful first year of collaboration, OVIN and e-mobil BW are committed to harnessing each region’s strengths to advance automotive and mobility innovation and connect local companies to global markets in Ontario and across Germany
“Baden-Württemberg has maintained good relations with Canada for many years, particularly with the economically strong province of Ontario. By extending the partnership, we are strengthening transatlantic relations with an important trading and democratic value partner of our country,” said Dr. Nicole Hoffmeister-Kraut, Minister of Economic Affairs, Labour and Tourism of the State of Baden-Württemberg.
Over the past year, the partnership has laid the groundwork for facilitating connections with innovators and industry leaders in the two jurisdictions, paving the way for enhanced cooperation in key areas of growth for the sector.
“Ontario’s automotive and mobility sector faces an unprecedented era of opportunity, making collaboration with key partners like Germany more vital than ever,” said Raed Kadri, Head of OVIN. “OVIN’s renewed partnership with e-mobil BW will be critical in fueling the next generation of Ontario-made innovation, connecting more Ontario companies to new customers around the world, and unlocking new markets. Together, we are propelling the global automotive and mobility sector into the future and driving lasting prosperity across borders.”
With Canada being the partner country at this year’s Hannover Messe show, the next phase of OVIN and e-mobil BW’s collaboration will play a key role in building a stronger automotive and mobility innovation corridor between Ontario and Germany, reinforcing their respective positions as two of the world’s largest and most renowned automotive markets.
“OVIN’s renewed partnership with e-mobil BW highlights the importance of international collaboration in driving innovation,” said Claudia Krywiak, President and CEO of the Ontario Centre of Innovation (OCI). “Over the next three years, this collaboration will support the growth of Ontario’s automotive and mobility sectors, while strengthening connections with one of Europe’s leading jurisdictions in the industry.”
Over the next three years, OVIN and e-mobil BW will accelerate efforts to enhance support for automotive and mobility companies in both regions, creating new opportunities for knowledge sharing, growing their global footprint, and forming strategic relationships.
“The automotive and mobility industry worldwide is facing massive changes in technology as well as in trade conditions,” said Franz Loogen, President of e-mobil BW. “Strengthening German Canadian relations is therefore of vital interest. We look forward to further intensifying our long-standing partnership with our friends at OVIN.”
